Guide To .ie Domain Registration Options

Am I Eligible?
If you fall under one of these categories, then yes, however you will need to supply documentation in some cases. Please read on for further information.
- You live in the Republic of Ireland
- Applicants not situated in the 32 counties, must demonstrate a connection with Ireland (except those applying with a registered Community Trademark).
There are several categories of applicant. Each category has specific restrictions and requires certain proof that you are eligible.
What information do I need to supply?
We normally need your company or business number which is supplied by the Companies' Registration Office.
Choosing the correct category
To register a .IE domain name, you must first decide which category you are eligible under.
The table below lists the various categories and provides an outline of the documents / proof required in order to register a .ie domain.

Registered Trademark Name
|

Trademark number

Options:
|
- You can register domains that correspond closely with the TM
- It may also include plurals, descriptors, or non-descriptive elements such as numbers or letters and may also differ in respect of signs, symbols or punctuation

You hold the trademark for Acme, you could register any of the following domains:

|
State Agency Name
|
|
Required:
|
No documentation required if we can verify the applicant as being a State Agency.
|

Options:
|
- You can register any variation of the state agency name
|
|

Publication Name
|
|
Required:
|
A faxed copy of the page from the publication where the applicant is stated as the writer or publisher of the publication.

Educational Institution Name
|
|
Required:
|
No documentation required if the applicant is recognised by the Department of Education.
|

Options:

You can register any reasonable variation of the school or college name
|

Example:

Your school or college name is St. Schools Secondary College, the following would be acceptable domain names:

- www.stschoolscollege.ie
- www.sssc.ie

Politicians Name
|
|
Required:
|
A signed letter, on official letterhead, from the politician confirming their eligibility to register a domain name in this category.
|
|
Options:

You can register their personal name with or without their official title. (e.g.: seanmuldoon.ie or seanmuldoonmep.ie)

Unincorporated Association Name
|
|
Required:
|
A self issued letter from the applicant on their letterhead stating that they "are an Unincorporated Association and require the domain name to reflect their organisation name".

- You can register any reasonable variation of the club, society or partnership name
|
|

Personal Trading Name
|
|
Required:
|
A letter from the applicant's solicitor, accountant or bank manager confirming that the applicant trades under their own name
An artist or author who trades as themself would also fall under this category

|
